La Galeria Gitana (http://www.galeriagitana.com/), located in San Fernando, California, hosted a group show in September, 2011, featuring Richard Thomas as well as several other artists. The theme of the show was “Gifts for the Table: California’s Amazing Bounty”. Two of Richard’s “Women of the Vine” series sculptures, “The Offering” and “Sun Drenched” were included in the show. The show was beautifully curated and orchestrated by Karen Nichols, Gallery Director.

It was a very hot July 4th weekend in St. Helena, but the artists and musicians prevailed to entertain and provide visual beauty to the patrons who attended the Napa Valley Art and & Music Festival hosted by the St. Helena Rotary Club. The Festival opened with a Gala Event Evening on Friday, July 1st and the Festival continued through Sunday, July 3rd. Nancie Brown, owner of Art on Main art gallery in St. Helena worked tirelessly throughout the weekend with Richard Thomas and his wife, Sheri Ziebell.

We are pleased to announce Richard Thomas, Sculptor, has been selected through a juried competition into the 1st Annual Napa Valley Art and Music Festival. The Festival will take place on Friday evening, July 1st as well as Saturday and Sunday, July 2-3, 2011 at the Trinchero Family Estates in St. Helena, California. Richard will be unveiling his latest sculpture, “Rush to Crush”, which depict Bacchus and two Muse all squishing together playfully crushing grapes. On Thursday, March 3, 2011, the owners of Richard Danskin Galleries, Val and Geoff Douglas warmly welcomed Richard Thomas, Sculptor, and his wife, Sheri Ziebell at the El Paseo Art Walk, in Palm Desert, California. It was certainly a successful evening as over 250 people visited the gallery within a couple of hours. Richard Thomas displayed one of his works in progress which is a sculpture within a frame, usually called a bas (pronounced bah…like a sheep!) relief. As Richard introduced himself to the visitors,

there were lots of interested on-lookers all with questions and admiration for the work. The questions from the visitors varied – they ran from “how do you do that?” to discussing what type of finish or patina Richard will use. A big thank you to Richard Danskin Galleries for the opportunity to participate in the Art Walk!

Richard Thomas, Sculptor, has won acceptance into the prestigious American Juried Art Salon’s 2010 Fall/Winter International Arts Show, www.artjury.com. His work, “Sun Drenched” was accepted into the 3-dimensional division. The twice-a-year fine arts competition attracts thousands of entries from throughout the world. This is Richard’s third consecutive show entry into the competition and he has been recognized and accepted into all three shows.

With over 1000 entries from other artists, only six works of art were selected for an “Award of Excellence”. Richard Thomas’ “The Offering” received an “Award of Excellence”! Richard entered The American Juried Art Salon 2009 Spring/Summer Show and last year he received an “Award of Merit”. Thank you to The American Juried Art Salon for the recognition!

On Thursday, May 6th, Richard Thomas, Sculptor and his wife, Sheri Ziebell, participated in the El Paseo Art Walk at Richard Danskin Galleries (www.danskingalleries.com) in Palm Desert, California. Richard had several sculptures on display and unveiled his latest work-in-progress, “Rush to Crush”, for the Art Walk patrons to enjoy.

Carolyne Hawley (www.hawleyfineart.com) , a local artist from Morongo Valley, also participated in the El Paseo Art Walk at Richard Danskin Galleries. She is a renowned equine artist and produced a beautiful equestrian figure while demonstrating her talent to the crowds.

Over 250 people came into Richard Danskin Galleries for the Art Walk and were warmly greeted Geoff and Val Douglas, gallery owners and Jeanie Faillers, gallery administrator. The patrons were very friendly and we appreciated the opportunity to share our work. It’s always a pleasure to welcome new collectors.

Richard Danskin Galleries (http://www.danskingalleries.com on El Paseo Drive in Palm Desert, California, has asked Richard Thomas, Sculptor, to present a live sculpting demonstration at the El Paseo Art Walk which will be held on Thursday, May 6th. Richard Thomas and his wife Sheri Ziebell will be at Richard Danskin Galleries on Thursday evening, May 6th between 5:00PM and 9:00 PM. This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet Richard Thomas in person and see his bronze sculptures on display.

Incredible Blooming Wild Mustard in Napa Valley!!

Late January through March the vineyards in Napa Valley are vibrant with wild mustard in bloom! Mustard fields are pretty common in most of California but the mustard that blossoms in the vineyards is truly magnificent! Tradition has it that the Padres sprinkled mustard seeds to mark the trail between the 12 missions in California with bright yellow flowers.

This now common vineyard plant adds nitrogen to the soil and helps keep the dirt in place during the rainy season. The Napa Valley Mustard Festival coincides with the blooming wild mustard as it runs every year from late January through March which means we get to enjoy the wonderful blooming mustard at its peak! Richard Thomas, Sculptor and Sheri Ziebell, Richard’s wife, captured these pictures at a popular photograph viewing spot off Highway 29 just north of Yountville in the center of Napa Valley.
